Happy New Year!

I hope you enjoyed the holidays. 2016 was a tough year for the world, but it was also the year Lambda Island first saw the light of day, so that’s at least one thing to be happy about :)

In 2017 the Island will continue to flourish. I’m feeling recharged and ready for action. The past 9 months have seen slow but steady growth in the subscriber count, there are now just under 90 paid members. Many thanks for all of your continuing support!

My main goal for 2017 is to make Lambda Island a sustainable source of income. There’s still some way to go, but I feel it’s within reach. I have a lot of ideas for videos and other content. I’ll also be making some long overdue improvements to the site.

The next episode will be about Stuart Sierra’s Component. So far none of the apps in the exisiting episodes feature a component system, even though some definitely could benefit from it (except the Luminus ones, since Luminus apps have it by default).

I want to introduce Component on its own, and talk a bit about how you would use it. Once it has its own episode you can expect to see it used in context in future installments.

I’ve also been working on a plan for what to cover after that. So far the choice of topics has always been a bit ad hoc. By planning ahead I’m aiming to have a clearer narritive from episode to episode. I will also spend the next few months creating a buffer of finished episodes, so I can guarantee a more consistent publishing schedule.

Episodes will still fall in one of four categories, Frontend, Backend, Tooling, and Essentials. What, exactly, I have planned for the coming months to a year I’ll tell you in the next newsletter.

My best wishes for 2017! Keep your code clear and your love flowing.
